Removing A Domain
When you decide to retire a webserver address such as
www.whateverthenameis.utk.edu
whateverthenameis.utk.edu
etc.
You can use the 'site:' and 'link:' commands in the search engine to find out who is linking to your site in the UT web community.
Type in the search text box:
-site:whateverthenameis.utk.edu +link:whateverthenameis.utk.edu
click 'seek'
This will return all links to your soon to be retired web site in
the UT web space excluding the site itself. You would then contact
the administrators of those sites of the pending change.
Example:
Once developers remove the old links from their site the site will have to
be reindexed in order to remove the old indexed references from the search
index. Developers can do this themselves from here.

The above process will correct bad links, notify users/developers
of your changes, and prevent the old pages showing up in search results.
You should then notify:
ITDWebmaster@utc.edu (Chattanooga)
ipmgr@utk.edu (Knoxville)
helpdesk@utm.edu (Martin)
bterhune@utmem.edu (Memphis)
to let them know they can remove the old IP name from the nameserver.
You can also go to to a web search engine like Google and do a similar
process from this page.

scroll down to the 'Page-Specific Search' section to find the 'Links'
command.
